The Drake

After spending the majority of my summer away from Toronto, I decided to play catch-up with my group of friends on a sunny Saturday afternoon. And like all great stories, this one starts off with brunch.

As much as I love Toronto, the public transportation system here is not always the most reliable. So when one of our friends has a car, we relish the fact that we need not step foot on the street car to get to whatever faraway destination we fancy for brunch. On this particular afternoon, we chose The Drake.

We arrived hungrily, and even managed a table on the patio.

After hearing Sayed talk our ears off about the scones, we ordered a batch to share. Now I never really saw what was special about these little guys until I tried them at The Drake. They were soft, buttery, and altogether perfection. And yes, I did pick the crumbs off my plate so none would go to waste. You truly cannot brunch here without ordering the scones.

As for the entrees. No one was feeling all that adventurous so there were several versions of the Eggs Benny.

The traditional.

Smoked Salmon.

And finally, the Mushroom. It was delicious, although no self respecting restaurant would screw up an Eggs Benny.

I on the other hand, was in no mood for a run of the mill brunch dish. I ordered the Chicken and Waffles. Crispy chicken, airy waffles, topped with cherry jam and maple syrup. A thing of beauty.

The Drake is especially beautiful on a summer day. The patio is fantastic, and the food is great. It’s the best way to kick off the weekend with friends.

I definitely love your colorful brunch dishes. The hubs would be all over the smoked salmon, but everything looks divine.

I’m usually a smoked salmon benny person, but nothing beats chicken and waffles! xo
