School Restaurant

While it’s easy to take your own city somewhat for granted, I always find that having visitors in town is the best way to appreciate just how much there is to it. This weekend, my friends Melissa, and Melissa (yes, two Melissas, who I refer to as Melissa squared), came down to Toronto from New York. I met both Melissas on my last visit to New York, all thanks to Instagram, where we bonded over our shared love for food and the embarrassment we cause our non-blogger friends when they accompany us for meals. Since they took me to such photogenic restaurants in NY, I thought I’d return the favour and show them the best of Toronto, starting with brunch.

I brought along my friend Anna and Sayed (who was outnumbered by Instagrammers and therefore had no grounds to complain), and we made our way over to School for Saturday brunch. After some heated deliberation (we take brunch seriously), we couldn’t resist getting down and dirty and ordered the lot.

Chicken and Waffles, without doubt the best in the city.

Cheesy Bacon French Toast which received rave reviews from Melissa.

Homeroom Skillet which Sayed, the toughest food critic I know, was delighted with.

Hashbrowns topped off with eggs, pico de gallo, and sour cream. What’s there not to love?

The hash browns which we originally hadn’t ordered but somehow made it onto our table after we stared at it a little too long on our neighbour’s table. I mean it was hash browns topped with jalapeño sour cream, it would be blasphemous not to get it.

By the time we finished each of our meals, we could barely fit in a few sips of water, let alone dessert. But we are not quitters.

I present to you, the showstopper that School is so famous for, Blueberry Pancakes. They deserve a slow clap. Sensational.

School has jumped to one of my favourite brunch spots in the city. The food was truly phenomenal. Needless to say I recommend it highly, but make sure you go early in the morning because otherwise, you’re competing with the city for a spot in this tiny restaurant.

Happy brunching!

I don’t really know what to say, they all look great, especially the blueberry pancakes, I know they taste great. Their number is a bit too big but they’re great.
