Maha’s Fine Egyptian

DSC_5741

For weeks now, I hadn’t been able to escape Maha’s Fine Egyptian. Every time I opened Instagram, there it was, pictures of various, delicious looking Egyptian dishes. I’d never had Egyptian food, and was curious to try it, but it seemed like everyone and their uncle felt the same way because every time I called them, the wait would be a minimum of an hour. So this past Saturday, determined to eat there, come rain, hail, or human stampede, my friends and I made my way over at 10:30am. Sure enough, we were able to get a table after a mere 20 minute wait (Toronto is turning into New York).

We wasted little time in ordering our food, deciding to get one of (almost) everything and sharing.

The Cairo Classic. Boiled eggs and a falafel served on a bed of fava beans. Absolutely delicious. The bread served on the side was perfection too.

The restaurant’s spin on Shakshouka, which wasn’t the typical eggs in sauce, but rather a scrambled egg cooked in sauce.

The king of all grilled cheeses. Date Grilled Cheese. Guys, if you’ve not had date in your grilled cheese, you haven’t lived. This dish in particular was so phenomenal that we got seconds.

And finally, Maha’s Mind Blowing Chicken Sandwich, that, as I’m sure you can judge by the picture, lived up to its name.

When the bill came, we almost couldn’t believe our eyes. For a feast worthy of royalty, we paid $15 each. Quite possibly one of the cheapest brunches I’ve ever had. This was an incredible introduction to Egyptian food, and I can’t wait until the next time I go back to Maha’s. A word to the wise: if and when you pay this restaurant a visit, make sure you arrive bright and early, otherwise, the wait is impossibly long.

This looks so good! I never tried Egyptian food either, but I heard that it is similar to Mediterranean cuisine, which is my favourite. Thank you so much for sharing!

I love that you are a foodie. I am always crushing on other people’s brunch meals. This fusion restaurant seems like the best of both worlds. Would love to try that Shakshouka.
