At the end of last year, I shared my New Years resolutions with you guys. While I’ve been working to make most of them a reality, I feel like I’ve been failing in one area for reasons that are beyond my control. The resolution I’m talking about is fitness. Now I know the 1st of January is otherwise known as international gym day, and then people naturally tend to fall off the wagon, but this just isn’t the case for me. Since I returned to Toronto, at the end of February, I’ve been sick on and off for a month. Now that I feel my body finally recovering, it’s incredibly frustrating to have to take even more time off from the gym on account of my ribcage injury. I realize this is something I can’t really do much about but I can’t help but feel bad about it, and count down the days until I can get back to my normal routine. To those of you who’ve been faced with an injury, what did you do about health and fitness during your down time?

Seriously, could you be any more chic? The coat, the jeans, the BOOTS – perfection!

And I feel you on the fitness resolution. Although I don’t have an injury, my frustration lies in not coming up with an effective enough time-management strategy to incorporate fitness. Hopefully the warmer weather will motivate me!

Oh gosh Joelle, you are preaching to the congregation. I know exactly what you mean! It’s so hard to find the time to go to the gym between working, blogging and having the slightest semblance of a social life!

I’m so sorry about your ribcage injury. I can imagine how you must feel not doing your fitness routine. A relative of mine recently had a head injury and was upset about her fitness. Once she gained some strength, she started out walking slowly around her neighborhood for an hour or so a day to build herself up. I’m not sure if your situation is similar (allowing you to move as much) but this really helped her. I hope you heal quickly. And your outfit is gorgeous!

I love the detail on the shoes. I just started going to the gym. But I think you should give your body the rest it needs. But I think you should really talk to your doctor.

Your distressed denim is such a nice twist on a classic outfit 🙂

Sorry to hear about your injury! when I injured my knee a while back I just had to rest up and do small and slow exercises, whatever the Doctor recommended, until I could do low impact things again. It’s better to rest and recovery fully than try push yourself and hurt yourself I think!

Health comes first so don’t feel bad about taking time off. Once everything gets better, you can work harder to reach your goals. Distressed denim and camel coat look cool, great combination.

I’m not the best person to stay quiet when it comes to injuries or to give any advice on the matter. Simply because last year around October I injured my shoulder doing weights and I have no stopped since – and it still hurts and I still haven’t gone to see a doctor. I have a bad back too, but that’s under control for now.

Anyway – being sick is awful but I’ve always heard that going to the gym actually helps when you’re sick because you sweat it all out. In the sense of course, that you don’t have a fever or a super duper runny nose.

I know that when you recover you’ll be fine and you’ll get back to your routine so there’s always something to look forward to.

You always have the best outfits and I always end up wanting them. I love it!

Shoulder injuries are the absolute worst. My brother got it while weight training as well, and he’s been down for almost 6 months! That’s why I’m waiting until I’m perfectly healed before I head to the gym – I don’t want to risk it getting worse. Hope your shoulder heals!!

Hope you’re doing great dear. Does it hurt on a daily basis and are you under any medications? I’d rest during those down moments, just to give my body and soul a shirt break 🙂

I’m healing slowly, but surely. I was on more serious medication, but my course ran out, so now I’m just taking Tylenol. Fingers crossed I can get back to the gym soon!

Funny you should ask because I am going through a similar experience right now. I got into a car accident two weeks ago and had some injuries to my arms and legs. Prior to that I had been working out regularly three times a week without missing a beat. I was so proud of myself. But after the accident I had to take a break. My workout streak was over. It’s all about accepting that you need to give yourself a break. But also not getting stuck into old habits. When you’re ready to get back out there, you’ll know and you can’t make any excuses. Instead of 3X a week I worked out 1X a week at first. Now I’m easing in with the elliptical and other things. I also like to watch shows on my phone while I work out and that makes the time go by much faster. My advice would be to ease in, find what you like to do to make it less of a chore, and stick with it so that you don’t want to break your streak. The fact that you’ve stuck with it for a while is a great motivation to keep going. Sorry for the long comment!
