Over the past few years, I’ve gone through the journey of finding my personal style. Like most people, this journey has involved exploring several style identities before discovering mine, which I best like to describe as minimal with a luxe touch. While I’m first to admit that I have by no means reached style nirvana, I’m at a comfortable place and can easily walk into a store and identify which pieces fit and don’t fit my aesthetic. This means I generally stay away from high street shops like Forever 21 and Zara where it’s easy to fall into the abyss of trendy, of-the-moment pieces. I instead choose to invest in high-quality, seasonless pieces that stand the test of time.

Since my mom has been in town, I’ve find myself debating with her over which camp is better, having a trend-heavy wardrobe, or a downsized wardrobe comprised of great pieces. I’m of course a strong advocate of the latter, but I’d love to hear from you guys, which camp do you fall into?

Love this long great coat! I’m totally the same way and really stick to buying good basics and investing in those pieces that will last me year to year!

I don’t like following trends, personally I like the minimalist look. There’s something classic I adore about it. It’s the high-quality pieces that count. Love the outfit! The coat is beautiful <3

I like the grey on grey! 🙂

I don’t really fall into wither wardrobe option – mine is overflowing, but I don’t jump on every trend and tend to go for more classic pieces…so it’s kind of a mix of both options! I’m constantly trying to downsize though, to create something more workable.

Love that coat! This is such a stylish and comfortable look! I have a more trend heavy wardrobe as I am always drawn to unique and frilly pieces. Most of my family (both young and old) though are the opposite.

I’m with you on that, ever since our move to NYC, I’ve been desperately downsizing my closet which means Zara diet and investing in high quality pieces I keep wearing over and over again. it’s always hard to not fall into trends trap tho. love this look btw, gorg as always

I would say the best is to have a balanced between trendy/seasonal and classic/long-lasting pieces.

I love this gorgeous long coat and the simple dress. I think I am in a bit of both camps! I like to invest in a few high quality timeless pieces, but my wardrobe is definitely NOT downsized as I complement the quality pieces with new trends and I am hopeless at throwing things out!! 🙂

OMG totally going thorough the same journey right now!

With the blogging world booming and trends so easily accessible, it’s hard to distinguish what it is that you actually like or what’s just been pushed down your throat (social media and such) so much that you think you like.

At the moment I think I’ve arrived at a place where I can identify my personal style as well but definitely need to work on down-sizing my wardrobe and sticking to more timeless pieces.

    Amazing look btw!

I love trendy pieces that appeal to my aesthetics but as I grow older, I do find myself gravitating towards more classic pieces! You look great btw!

I love your style. I keep telling myself to do this too but get distracted by trends. I think you are right what you say about Zara, that store causes me to buy things that I would never think of if I hadn’t seen it there. Haha. I have tried out lots of different styles myself over the years and still do. Still yet to find a style I like and stick to it. Maybe this will come. Great inspo as always and have a great week. Love this look! The coat is amazing! I am in a bit of both camps! I like to invest in high quality timeless pieces but sometimes I buy new trends. I love to play with fashion, so I change a lot I don’t have a unique style 🙂
I wish you an amazing week!

You look so beautiful in this all grey ensemble, Siffat! The coat looks so cozy and stylish, I love it layered over that pretty dress! My overall taste is eclectic in anything and everything. I like all kinds of food, decor and style. I find what I love from each style or vibe and I try to make it my own. Thanks so much for sharing and I hope you’re having a great start to your week so far!

You always look fantastic! And honestly, I love a mix of both trendy and classic pieces. For me, I’d probably prefer a 70/30 (classic/trendy) split.

  23. May 17, 2016 / 2:55 am

I think mostly classic timeless pieces, but occasionally dabbling in the trends is fun too. But definitely no to the cheap poor quality clothes people buy over the internet from overseas companies that copy trends. I’m not looking for something I can wear only once or twice.
