Anyone who knows me will tell you that my two younger brothers are my best friends. However, being 5 and 6 years older than them is also a reminder of how much I’ve grown up and how much I’ve stopped giving a shit. Like remember in high school and college, when you had to go to a party because everyone was going to be there? Or how you used to be pressured into doing things because all your friends were doing it? Well now, it just doesn’t feel like the world will come to an end if I decide to stay in. And saying no to something I don’t want to do doesn’t seem as daunting anymore. Having reflected on this, I decided to come up with a list of things to stop caring about.

1. Going to an event or party because of FOMO
If you don’t feel like changing out of your sweats and caking your face with makeup, then don’t. You don’t have to be a slave to societal pressures. Plus, there will be plenty of other occasions to go out and see someone make a fool of themselves (or you know, make the occasional fool of yourself). What’s the point of killing yourself to have fun? Doesn’t that defy the whole point of having fun in the first place?

2. Working all the time
This is something that took me forever to figure out, but you need to give yourself time off. No one can be productive all the time, at one point you reach diminishing returns. Give yourself a day off and bask in the glory of vegging out on your couch, ordering takeout, and doing absolutely nothing.

3. Other people’s opinion of you
Be true to yourself and have a thick skin. There is no point in changing yourself to make other people like you because at the end of the day, your own opinion of yourself is the one that matters most.

4. Wondering what your exes are up to
Why bother? No good can come of stalking them on Facebook and accidentally liking their picture and then wondering if they’d notice if you unliked it. Move on.

5. Buying into a trend because everyone else is
Wear what makes you feel beautiful. Trends are fleeting, and you should never buy into them unless they make you feel like the best version of yourself.

What are some things you stopped caring about with age?

Hey hon, hope you had a good weekend! One of the things I’ve stopped caring about as I’ve grown older is- in my 20s I never showed my legs, i.e. all skirts and dresses were floor length. But now in myu 30s I’ve graduated to midi-level pieces and that’s a big deal to me. I am also more comfortable rocking very short hair, something I could never have done when I was younger coz we live in a Beyonce hair toss world! ( :

Great post, it’s always amazing to see how many things change in people’s minds as they get older. One thing I’ve learned just over the past year is it’s ok to be alone. I don’t need to be surrounded by people all the time, especially if it’s people I don’t really like. This has helped me figure out who I really want to be friends with as well as spending more time with people I actually love.

You are so right babe! These issues should not bother us anymore. And frankly they don’t.
I have to deal with the fact that i cannot please everyone and that I cannot live up to everyone’s expectations of me.
My 2017 motto is positive vibes only and therefore this has to change.
    All unnecessary negativity gone!
Loving this outfit btw! You are always so true to your style.!

Definitely agree with you when you say not to care about others’ opinions, it’s so important to truly believe in yourself!

You’re so full of wisdom babe! I second all of these points and especially the whole idea of not giving a damn about anything that won’t help you. I love that you also wrote Time in the title, because so much comes back to how one chooses to spend time. No one knows how much time they’ll get and that’s reason enough to be very careful and specific about it! Have a lovely week! Xx

This is absolutely spot on. I wasted a lot of my time and fretted over such silly matters( which in the bigger scenario of things is completely irrelevant ) in my early to mid 20s. Especially point 1 and 3. It’s a very reassuring read and agree with you whole heartedly. A lot of my friends are still stuck in that zone where they feel that they must be out there and “having fun” with people who won’t even matter or be there in a few months/years. I completely agree with the fact that I’d rather be doing something which will help me grow and be a better human being than try to put on a mask and follow the herd. Cheers for the good read.

It’s interesting how our thinking and attitude toward life is changing as we get older. You look amazing in this outfit.

These are all so true, it’s interesting to see how our perspectives on what matter change over time. Letting go of others opinions of me has been a positive thing, for sure, though it’s also quite the process. I’m loving your textured coat here, too!

Boy, did I need to read this! I tend to care SO much about big and small things. This post was a great reminder that it’s truly okay to be me and to just not care sometimes. Thanks, Siffat <3

Ohh, I totally agree with all your points. And especially the one about going to events. When you are a blogger it is hard to say no but than you go and most of the people are really so self-absorbed that you regret going. I think my approach changed a lot after my daughter was born.

The same goes for buying into a trend. Everyone wears bell sleeves now. I feel like I am the only one who does not. :-)))

Have a lovely day, Siffat, and thank you for another beautiful article that made me smile!

Such a fantastic post, girl! I agree with everything you’ve listed here. I, too, struggled with taking time off from working and allowing myself to just breathe, I would feel so guilty and unproductive, but I’m staring to get better with it. Thanks so much for sharing and I hope you’re having a great start to your week so far!

Your coat looks so cozy and soft!! I envy it for these cold winter days. Also, I agree that it’s best to stop caring so much about things. I used to have really bad FOMO. But now, I’ve just stopped caring about all of it. It definitely helps me live in the moment more, and enjoy the times when I’m actually having fun. Having to always compete with trends or others is exhausting. Letting go and just doing things to make myself happy is definitely better.
I hope you are having a great 2017 so far!!

Excellent advice…I definitely need to stop working all the time. WHY? Why do I insist on staying late and finishing that one thing that totally doesn’t even matter if it gets finished? I started paying for a yoga membership and I swear part of the incentive is that the class starts at 5:30 so it forces me to leave the office on time to make it there, lol

I agree with your advice. We shouldn’t worry unnecessarily by caring about things that are out of our control anyway.

I love the little sentiments you expressed in this post. I think I’m guilty of all of them on my bad days. I need to try especially hard with the trend one, I think being a *blogger* its easy to see other bloggers wear the same thing and feel like you need to have it too.

LOVE the list Siffat! I totally agree with all your points but more so relate to ‘3. other people’s opinion of you’. I spend SO much time thinking about what others will think if I do this or that. But I just need to stop and do what I want for myself without thinking of other’s thoughts!

Also love your coat – looks very warm and cosy yet also superrrrrr stylish! x

My fave is stopping worrying about how others feel about you. As I’ve gotten older, that been a little easier to do. Love this cozy chic coat and I adore your sneaks. Have a great day Siffat!

Two things: I love the back of those shoes! So cute. And I also love the message of this post! I totally agree with #3- I’m also trying to let go of other people’s perception of myself and work on my own self-image.

First, I lovee that coat! I love so many of these tips! I think as bloggers… we tend to want to get into trends, but there are sooo many that I just can never get behind! I also need to get better at saying no or just not going to events when I don’t feel like it!
