4 Ways to Become More Positive

4 Ways to Become More Positive

Earlier this week, I was out for dinner with Anna when we got on the subject of positivity. Have you ever noticed that people who are positive tend to have ‘good luck’? More importantly, have you noticed that negative people are always victims of unfortunate events? It’s a vicious cycle that I’ve seen so many people fall into.

A couple of years back, my mom told me to read The Secret. Now this isn’t the first time I’ve brought it up, but I love this book. I’m a big believer in energy. You get what you put out into the universe, so if you’re positive and believe good things will happen, they generally do. So I wanted to share what how to stay positive.

Expose yourself to things that make you happy
A little vague, but allow me to elaborate. I can’t be the only one who feels inspired when I look at beautiful pictures on social media. Or physically happy when I watch a funny TV show. Or go for a walk in a pretty neighbourhood. The other day, I called my mom crying about something, and she told me to take a deep breath, drop what was bothering me, and watch an episode of Friends. I shit you not, I felt instantly happier. Proof that exposing yourself to happy things will lift your mood (and that moms are wise).

Get enough sleep
The busier we get, the more likely we are to sacrifice on sleep, which is a huge mistake. Getting enough sleep rests and refreshes our bodies and minds. When I get my 8 hours, I wake up feeling energized, happy and ready to take on the day.

Work out
Roll your eyes at me all you want, but in the wise words of Elle Woods “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don’t shoot their husbands, they just don’t”. Since I’ve started working out regularly again, I can feel myself being in a good mood 95% of the time.

Positive affirmations
If you want something, tell yourself it’s going to happen for you. Literally wish it and make it your mantra. Work hard for your goals, but also truly believe in them. So many things, crazy opportunities have come my way because I believed they would.

Surround yourself with positive people
I cannot say this enough. Happiness is contagious, spend time with people who uplift you.

What are some things you guys do to stay positive?

Agree that positive people tend to get more luck or let’s put it that way their positive energy makes the things better for them. Most of the time I’m the most negative person ever, I know it is not good but it is kind hard habit to change. I heard a lot about that book, yet I still haven’t read it. I really need positive affirmations, I know that it will have a positive effect in my life, I just need to believe in it. Great post! Also that coat looks so cosy and warm! x

We are totally on the same wave length right now! My goal has been to be positive lately. Putting a positive spin on my thoughts and focusing on what makes me happy plus also taking care of myself. I sweater I started 2017 feeling like a completely different person with this outlook <3

That is so, so true, Siffat. I notice that in the lives of others as well as in my own life. Those who have a positive outlook seem to have incredible luck and those who are more negative encounter a lot more challenges. I love your mom’s suggestion of watching Friends. I’ll have to try that next time I’m feeling blue!

Ahh these tips are so true, they really work! I’ve been making a huge effort to keep telling positive things to myself and always think of the best case scenario, and it really makes me a much more positive person 🙂

I’ve never thought of it that way but you’re right, good things tend to happen to happy people. I’m a huge believer in always having a positive outlook on things no matter how hard it can be sometimes. Love all the tips you gave, exposing myself to things that make me happy or working out always help. Another tip I learned recently is to do something to better yourself. Be it listening to a podcast or watching an inspiring Ted talk.

Love your outfit, the coat looks so comfy! xx

Hi Siffat, I love The Secret. I think that besides Eckhart Tolle’s books, it changed my life. I believe that we become what we think. It is all in our mind. I agree that positive people are happier and tend to have more luck and success in life.
    Happy weekend, sweetie. 🙂

I agree with everything you said. To me spending time with myself is one of the best ways to stay positive. Just taking the time to read a good book, walk long distances, take a bath, light some candles, flick through the pages of my favourite magazine or watch a favourite film are all ways for me to stay connected with myself and really get to know myself better.

Surrounding yourself with positive people is SO important! I feel like the people who we are with a lot of the time influence who we are as people. Positive people = A more positive you! Love your nails – BTW <3

Great tips! I personally get so much sleep – usually 10 hours a day if I can. Otherwise, sleep deprivation is equals to an unhappy me.

I agree with what you’re saying. It’s all comes down to the law of attraction: what you think about you attract into your life.

Hey hon! First of all, I hope what made you cry has been sorted out and meeeehn, I really gotta get The Secret, everyone bangs on about it ( :
I am all about the tips you gave though I must admit I find chanting positive affirmations, sooooo hard. This year after reading someone’s post on Insta, I tried waking up every morning and saying out loud the 5 things I was thankful for. That didn’t last long erm…
One of the things that makes me happy is speaking to my eldest sister, as a v. gd mate said, her voice is like ‘sunshine’.
    Have a good week hon ( :

When I work out I’m just exhausted and unhappy that so much time was “wasted” – I’m doing something wrong 😀 Your coat is so cool by the way – and I love what you did with your nails!

I totally agree with you! My mom was actually the one who told me about the secret as well. I’m a very happy and positive person and I find that the easiest way to stay that way is simply ignore all things that don’t bring you happiness. And if you can’t ignore them, try your best to change them. I also find appreciating what you have and focusing on the little joys in life helps a lot too.

    Thanks for another motivating post!!

You look great! I love your coat and these are all great ways to stay positive 🙂 xx

I would say yes and no. Yes if your a more positive person you are apt to take more positive steps leading to more positive or constructive outcomes and same for negative, if you are negative you will act accordingly and could become involved in negative events. Pretty simple nothing mysterious. But some carry this notion too far with books like The Secret and take it too literally. And this can often lead to blaming the victim as if someone gets cancer it was caused by their negative thoughts, not the toxins they were exposed to etc…

There are plenty of people who are positive and nice who have bad and unfortunate things happen to them and there are negative complaining people who always have great luck so yeah not sure if I buy in to The Secret, though it earned it’s writers and publishers a lot of money.

  22. March 22, 2017 / 11:21 pm

OMG, Siffat, I totally saw myself when reading this post. Including resorting to an episode of Friends when feeling down 🙂 I also firmly believe that you attract what you project, so if you project happiness and good vibes, they will come back tenfold! It’s a bit hard when you are having a particularly difficult week, but hey, only one more day to go before Friyay!

Loving the theme of this post babe – I’ve felt myself thinking the same lately, that a positive mind just radiates into other things in your life, it’s crazy! I’m also loving the cosiness of this jacket, I need for winter!
