The Ultimate Blogger Crime?

The Ultimate Blogger Crime?

Dress: Zara (similar here and here); Jacket: Zara (similar here and here); Watch: Under The Sun; Hat: Club Monaco (similar here and here); Shoes: Alexander Wang; Bag: J.W. Anderson

A few weeks back, I did a wardrobe purge and donated things I haven’t worn in 6 months. While I was combing through my clothes, I stumbled upon this Zara dress from last summer. I tried it on, it fit perfectly, and I loved the look of it. Since it’s a simple white dress, I immediately thought of 5 different ways I wanted to style it. Then, a thought popped into my head: would wearing a dress from last year make me a bad blogger?

Personally, I find it important to make the most out of every piece in my wardrobe. I shop very carefully, making sure I don’t buy things that I’ll only wear twice and throw out. However, often times, this means that the pieces I’m styling are a few seasons old, and therefore no longer available in stores. As a blogger, I love to share outfits that you guys are able to shop. At the same time, it seems impractical and incredibly wasteful to strictly post clothing that is ‘this season’. Especially considering what a big proponent I am for building a wardrobe full of pieces one can wear over and over again.

The other day, I stumbled upon this article on Manrepeller which quotes Pernille Taesbaeck. She says “[Scandinavian style] is not about investing in lots of expensive items; it’s about personalizing each item and reusing them over and over again, but in new ways.” What I love about this philosophy is the fact that it scoffs at the accusation of something being “so last season”. And really, that’s the difference between fashion and style. Style is the ability to take something old and create something new.

Here’s my take: although I love being able to share new looks with you, I also love showing you how to style one piece over and over again, even if it isn’t shoppable.

So I want to hear from you guys: what are your thoughts on bloggers wearing old clothes?

I don’t think it’s a crime at all! It is an art to create different looks with the same pieces and make them look new!
I often reuse the same pieces because I like to make the most of the clothes that I invest in.

haha dude, this is all I do! Not entirely, but, in general, when I am talking about a new piece for my blog I style it back with things in my wardrobe that I rely on and have done for years and years. Literally, last winter I confessed to just how old some of my black heels are that I wear all the time. It was about 2007 or something I think. Yikes! haha.
Keep wearing what you love hon!

I love it when bloggers wear old clothes! It’s not practical or ecological to throw them away after one use. My best purchases are those that I can wear season after season. Anybody who says it’s wrong to wear old things is just crazy. Love this dress and the whole look! xx

Not a crime at all! Most people (aka me) find different ways to wear the same piece. This post exemplifies the true creativity that lies within your own closet.

I so don’t think it’s a crime at all! In fact, I admire when people can restyle previous outfits! I personally am a huge fan of keeping certain dresses for a long time and wearing them again. You look so freaking gorgeous as always!!! <3

Well, honestly, I think that recycling your clothes is a sign of maturity and imagination. It is easy to buy new stuff but to know how to wear it and style it for several seasons is something else. And we also have to stop promoting shopping when there is enough already produced and it is polluting the planet.
    Have an amazing Thursday, Siffat.

I think that it’s great to restyle old clothes even if they’re not shoppable any more, and I fully agree with the definition of style.
I love how you (re)styled this white dress and I would be very happy to see more ways of styling it in the future!

    ummm i think it’s a big YES!
It’s encouraging your readers to style their pieces in different ways. There’s nothing wrong with that.

Great idea – you should do it more often

I always reuse old clothes and there is nothing bad about that. Some of them never get out of style, which is a great thing. In fact, this little white dress is one of those wardrobe staples you can rely on for years. Works just as a good biker jacket :). Wishing you a great day! xx

I personally love it when bloggers wear old clothes and same ones again and again. I just don’t like it when in every photo they have different clothes. But seeing the same old t-shirt with so many different combinations, that’s my cup of tea!

I love it! I feel like so much of blogging has become promoting new clothes constantly, always onto the next trend – it’s so refreshing to see someone wearing their own ACTUAL clothes and wearing something more than once. You can tell when it’s real personal style! Great post, absolutely not a blogger crime.

I completely agree with using what you have and styling it in new ways! I feel like that shows true creativity. And not to mention way less wasteful. The fashion industry is one of the most harmful on the planet and any way we can do our part to contribute less is good I think 🙂 But of course I love shopping too!

There’s nothing wrong with reusing old clothes, in my opinion, and indeed it shows the amazing creativity and style of the bloggers out there when they are able to restyle their pieces and give them a new meaning. I am really exploring this route, partly because I found myself hitting the “add to cart” button way too often and neglecting some of my old wardrobe staples. Also, I am sure there are almost always dupes or similar pieces that the readers can go to in order to recreate an outfit 😉 You look so beautiful, girl, love this LWD and the urban touch of the leather jacket. Sending you much love from England
