Time-Batching: The One Trick That’ll Boost Your Productivity

I’ve touched on time-batching before, but I feel like it’s game-changing enough to warrant its own dedicated blog post.

So what is time-batching? Basically, you set aside a given about of time to focus on a specific task. That way, you’re not pulled in a hundred directions and can actually buckle down and work on one thing. I don’t know who created the myth of multi-tasking, but I swear to you it is bullshit. It takes mental energy to hop between tasks, and you’re just never as productive, but are somehow more exhausted. I feel like time-batching has completely changed how much work I get done.

Now that you have the basics, let’s get into how you actually do it. So here’s what I do: every day of the week, I batch my tasks. So on Mondays, I focus on my blog. I write blog posts and research new topics all day. I bang out like, 3-4 blog posts, and I’m basically set for the next week. Seriously, it’s such a time-saver because I’m never scrambling last minute to do something.

Another example is emails. Guys, emails are a bitch and take up SO MUCH TIME. But instead of refreshing my inbox 24/7, I set aside 2 hours in the day, say morning and afternoon, specifically to tackle emails.

What are the specific benefits of time-batching, you ask? Where do I start?

  • Focus: I was initially introduced to time-batching through the Pomodoro Technique in my Productivity Planner. It’s unbelievable the amount of work you can get done when you’re razor focused on one specific task
  • Reduces exhaustion: every task we do takes up mental energy. Think about it, you write a long email, think of the perfect Instagram cation, write a blog post, run out to take a picture. Just thinking about all of this makes my head hurt. Pouring your mental energy into one task allows you to get more done, AND have time left over for fun
  • Organization: you will be shocked when you see how much more organized you become when you start time-batching. You’ll get through so much more on your to-do list since you’re not as scattered all over the place

If this doesn’t have you convinced that you need to try time-batching, I don’t know what will. Do you have any productivity hacks?

Definitely a goal of mine in 2019 to be ahead of schedule instead of constantly behind it, or at least that’s what it feels like! Definitely gonna try some of your tricks! Xx
