The sun has finally returned to Toronto! After suffering through the coldest month in 80 years, we have finally bid farewell to the never-ending plague of a winter, and are happily on our way to brighter and warmer days. And what better way to celebrate great weather than with Sunday brunch? My high school friend Masha was visiting from New York over the weekend, so it was the perfect way to catch up. Nish and Tim decided to come too, because let’s face it, nobody says no to brunch.
I’m the first to admit that I am all too comfortable in my downtown Toronto bubble. I hardly ever venture beyond the realms of King or Bloor, so going to Summerhill was refreshing. It was such a great change from core downtown with its cute little cafes and shops. I’d been wanting to try Terroni for quite a while. I’d heard wonderful things about their pizza and pasta, but had no idea they even served brunch!
Thankfully, my friends are all obliging when it comes to me taking pictures when we go out for meals. Tim however, still hates it when I stop him from tucking into his food until I get the perfect picture, but after a few years, he’s grown accustomed to my tyranny and has learned to love me in spite of it. On Sunday however, he got lucky because Nish had ordered the same Smoked Salmon Frittata which I could photograph while Tim enjoyed his in peace.
All very photogenic!
Masha and Vera both ordered the Frittata alla N’duja.
I’m pretty sure my dish stole the show.
Behold, the Torta Rustica. Perfectly flakey pastry stuffed with ricotta and topped off with a poached egg.
So good I didn’t even care for a bite from anyone else.
Usually brunch isn’t a multi-course meal. But who can say no to round 2 when it involves Scandanavian Pancakes with Nutella? Not me.
These look nothing like your conventional pancake, but they were absolutely sensational. Incredibly fluffy and light with a hint of orange. Paired with Nutella and jam, my mouth had a party.
I couldn’t think of a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
I will most definitely be returning to Terroni for another round of their Torta Rustica and pancakes; and if their pizza is anywhere close to as good as their brunch, then my blog is in danger of repetitive posts on the same restaurant!
