Burgernator

It’s a well known fact that clean eating is only for weekdays. Some argue that Friday is a weekday, but is it really? So let’s cut to the chase – we can all agree that there is nothing better than the feeling of ripping into a burger, juices dripping, sauce all over your face, the works. I had one such moment when my friends and I decided to pay The Burgernator a little visit.

Why in my 6 years in Toronto I haven’t visited this place is beyond me. Tucked away in Kensington Market, upon entering, you will find tables with remnants of food from the last party occupying it, greasy sauce bottles, and some serious burgers.

Tim’s arrived first: the Fully Loaded. Complete with a fried egg on top. He was actually the only person in our group who didn’t order a side. The man who took his order looked confused.

Sayed ordered the special, which was a lamb burger.

Topped with cheese, avocado and garlic aioli. If I could have ordered a second burger, I would have gotten this one.

And behold, my masterpiece: The Big Bang. A regular cheese burger made extraordinary with buffalo chicken strips. Beef and chicken. What could be better?

With a side of Rocket Fries. Look at it. Filthy.

And finally, the Hasta La Vista, Birdie for Nish. A chicken burger with mozzarella, mushrooms, and basil pesto aioli. Poutine on the side.

I would like to tell you there was sharing. But there wasn’t. There were 5 minutes of silence, and it was all gone. The showstopper  at Burgernator is something none of us ordered. It’s called the Burgernator: a triple beef patty between two grilled cheese sandwiches. My one regret is not having ordered it. I will most certainly be going back just to take the said challenge.

After dinner, we went to Castle, which is a bar/cafe with boardgames. There, the boys got so epically thrashed at Star Wars Monopoly that it was embarrassing. Of course they claim I was lucky, but such are the complaints of a bunch of sore losers. So in the wise words of Beyonce: Who run the world? Girls.

Thanks Diana! Definitely comparable to some of my favourite burger spots in London!
