So, I might have stumbled upon the best Mexican restaurant in Toronto. With a light and airy atmosphere, a small, well formed menu, and a killer selection of salsas and hot sauces, Wilbur Mexicana will delude you into believing there’s a beach full of white sand waiting for you outside.
We kicked off with Chips and Queso Fundido, a cheese sauce concocted by the Mexican gods.
I ordered the Baha Fish Taco and the Carne Asada, and holy guacamole, were they good! Props to the girl at the counter for recommending the latter to me because I wouldn’t have gotten it at first glance. With juicy, flavourful pieces of steak, crispy onions and salsa, the Carne Asada was a flavour bomb.
The Baja Fish Taco consisted of a perfectly crisp mahi-mahi fillet topped off with pico de gallo and chipotle mayo. All signs pointed to a foodgasm.
The Shrimp and Shrooms Quessadilla which, in predictable fashion, was to die for.
Taaseen ordered The Original Wilbur-rito which he devoured without stopping for pictures, but I forgive him because he’d just gotten off a 20 hour flight. I will tell you though, he barely said one sentence while eating, which is a rarity considering the boy talked himself to sleep every night while growing up. I took that as a good sign.
Having carb loaded like never before and consumed enough hot sauce to bathe in, we left feeling elated.
If you’re looking for one hell of a Mexican feast, ladies and gentleman, Wilbur is your answer.
