Patois

You can never have too many brunch recommendations, so here I am, presenting you with yet another one.

By now, you may have guessed that breakfast is my favourite meal of the day. So of course, both Saturdays and Sundays are spent brunching, and who better to take with me than my younger brother, Taaseen (and Nish who has reluctantly hopped on the brunch bandwagon).

I foolishly took the two boys to Patois for Sunday Brunch. Why foolish, you ask? Because now they refuse to go anywhere else… and you will too after you see what’s in store for you.

Chicken and Waffles for Taaseen. Where do I even start? Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, with a blonde butter syrup so good you could drink it. The waffles were were light and crispy, completely unlike your run of the mill waffle.

Nish’s Open Faced Shrimp Burger with Snow Crab & Hollandaise Sauce. The name is quite self explanatory. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to try any for fear of being dropkicked in the fact, but Nish raved on about it for the next few days, so that should be testament to its taste. It came with a side hash which was absolutely delectable. I regretted not ordering it for myself.

I ordered the Patois Eggs Benny which is essentially eggs benny on Jamaican patties. It may not look like much, but it was most certainly the best eggs benny I’ve had. Who’d have known Jamaican patties would taste so good with hollandaise sauce and eggs? Genius.

But we didn’t stop there. Oh no. We went on to order BOTH their dessert items.

The Cookie Butter Stuffed French Toast. I had never tried cookie butter before this, but I can hardly imagine a more glorious way to pop my cookie butter cherry than having it stuffed between slices of french toast. It had just the right amount of sweetness to it, and the french toast was crunch on the outside and melt-in-your-mouth soft on the inside.

Which was followed by the Hong “King” Kong Waffle. A crispy waffle topped with Nutella, strawberries, whipped cream, and plantain chips. Incredible. And don’t think it was all unhealthy. The bowl of fruits on the side practically makes the whole thing a salad.

Word on the street is that the dinner menu at Patois is just as swoon-worthy as their brunch. Will there be a Patois dinner post in the near future? I wouldn’t rule out the possibility. For now, get your butts over to the wooden chair at Patois STAT. You can (and will) thank me later.
