Instead of talking culottes, which has become something of a stale subject (even for me), I wanted to address a completely different issue: makeup. I’ve always considered myself a low maintenance, swipe of lipstick and BB Cream kinda girl. Sure I like to contour my face on the occasional night out as much as the next girl, but false lashes on a Monday morning were never my thing. But then, when summer rolled around this year, I noticed that my skin was breaking out every so often, which is completely unnatural for me. Makeup seemed like the culprit so I decided to retire it for a little while. To my surprise, I realized that without my signature red lips and and dewy skin on account of Laura Mercier’s magical tinted moisturizer, I felt naked. No longer could I count myself amongst the Sofia Vergaras of the world, confident and glowing barefaced. I felt like a warrior without my shield.

The solution? Sunglasses. Okay I’m kidding. Sunglasses are a temporary solution, but what of this issue in the long run? Well, after realizing my cocaine-like dependance on makeup, I have taken it upon myself to go out barefaced more often. I can’t deny makeup’s function as a confidence booster, especially when it comes to concealing a late night or a pimple here and there. When it comes to a date or a meeting, a swipe of mascara can make all the difference, and that’s fine. But feeling self-conscious while out for dinner with friends or even running to the grocery store? Not cool.

After 2 weeks of going (mostly) makeup free, I’m happy to report that not only is my skin healthier than ever, I’m also growing more comfortable with what I see in the mirror, dark circles and all.
