If you are a Toronto native and have not heard of Kasa Moto/had it blow up your Instagram feed, you may want to check whether you live under a rock. I may be late to hop on the Kasa Moto bandwagon, but in my defence, I was away from Toronto for the past two months. So the best way to err my mistake was obviously to pay it a visit for dinner after my 24 hour journey back to Toronto, because priorities.
From the outside, Kasa Moto looks exactly how you would envision Toronto’s hottest new Japanese restaurant to look – sleek and sophisticated. The natural thought process is to wonder where to find the exact pieces used to decorate the restaurant and/or consider moving in altogether. After walking around and taking pictures of the interior for a good 15 minutes (and totally being judged by the guests and staff), we went on to order our meal.
First up, the Rock Shrimp Tempura. The server mentioned that it was one of his favourite appetizers, and I can see why. It was crispy and bursting with all sorts of flavour. We were off to a good start.
Next up, Tuna Tataki. Fresh, light, flavourful. Something I would happily eat every day for the rest of my life.
The Soft Shell Crab Maki.
A close up because it was just so pretty.
My favourite dish, the Kamameshi.
Sort of like a Japanese risotto. Wild mushroom rice topped with truffle butter. I don’t think I need to elaborate on how good it was considering I just used the words mushroom, truffle, and butter in the same sentence.
And finally, the Black Cod. Fresh, rich, and unbelievably moist.
Since I was in Dhaka for my birthday, I got to celebrate it again, which was fantastic. This was the chocolate mousse cake, and it was phenomenal. Thankfully there were not too many people around so I was able to scrape the plate without judgement.
Toronto friends, I couldn’t recommend Kasa Moto more. It has jumped to my list of favourite restaurants, and easily takes the prize for best Japanese spot. In short, GO.
