A few weekends back, I found a little bit of a hidden gem that I’m excited to share with you. If you wander down Church Street, you’ll find a tiny, difficult to find restaurant that goes by the name of Smith. It’s sort of like the Room of Requirements, actually. Once you walk in, you’ll be greeted by a friendly host/hostess, and if the weather is warm enough, be taken to the back patio which is magical in its own right.
I happened to stumble upon this little restaurant a few weeks back, and have not stopped thinking about it since. Thankfully, I also went when summer seemed to be endless, and patios a permanent resident in the Toronto food scene, but alas, it seems like those days are behind us. Either way, patio or no patio, the food was delectable, and good enough to make one forget the fact that it is freezing outside.
Huevos Rancheros. Easily the best I’ve tasted in the city.
But the star of the show was the Brisket Hash. Melt in your mouth brisket topped with two poached eggs and cheese fondue.
And last but certainly not least, French Toast. Now this french toast was nothing like I’ve ever tasted before. It was a cross between a bread pudding and an apple pie in the form of a french toast. Allow me to elaborate. This guy is actually a brioche bread pudding, topped with cinnamon spiced apple and topped with caramel which makes the angels sing.
Look at it all, sitting pretty. It was all demolished in the next 5 minutes.
Stuffed and satisfied, I trudged home only to fall into a major food coma. To all my fellow brunch enthusiasts, I highly recommend a trip down to Church Street to experience the wonder that is Smith.
This looks just soo delicious (:
