Miku

As much as I love Toronto’s food scene, I’ve always found that there’s a lack of good sushi places. Of course there’s Ki and Kasa Moto which are both amazing, but I’m talking about traditional, non-fusion, good old sushi. It seemed however, like my wish came true with the opening of Miku, the latest Vancouver transplant to hit Toronto.

After hearing about it from one of my friends who could not stop talking about how it was the best sushi in Vancouver I thought I’d give it a try. She did after all, introduce me to echinacea which changed my life, so I trusted her judgement. So I made my way to Miku, and it was the beginning of a truly beautiful friendship.

We started off with Tempura Fish and Chips.

Sablefish was the fish of the day, which is what we had. It was crispy from the outside and flakey from the inside. And yes, I’m salivating as I write this.

Next came the Aburi Platter. I genuinely mean it when I say I’ve never had anything like this before. Before this, I’d never even heard of Aburi, it was a dark time.

So the Aburi Platter had a variety of different sushi which were all dressed in some homemade sauce and flame seared. They were all made the be so flavourful that no additional sauce was necessary.

Then came the Soft Shell Crab Rolls which were a little difficult to get a grip on, but well worth the struggle.

I mean look how pretty they are.

We polished our meal off with Matcha Opera Cake which quite frankly was one of the top 10 desserts I’ve had in Toronto. I could have gone for a second plate, but I figured I still want to live out my youth without Diabetes, so I resisted.

Guys, I’m dying to go back here. If you’re looking for traditional Japanese food, this is where you should be going. Don’t even think twice, just do it. It is a little on the expensive side, but truly worth it.

The plates look amazing. Simple and complex at the same time, colorful but not annoying. And I bet they taste delicious.

“It was a dark time.” hahaha…I totally feel this strongly about food too! Where I live, we have a couple really good sushi restaurants. If you ever come to St. Louis, let me know and I’ll take you there! That fish and chips is such a fun take on the dish. And everything looks soooo pretty! Sushi is totally an art form.

Honestly, finding a great restaurant can change your life. I went to this other sushi place yesterday because it was supposed to be good and left feeling like I wanted to throw up – so gross! St. Louis is definitely on the list, and needless to say I’ll get in touch 🙂 xo
