Lamesa

Lamesa

Our story today begins on a freezing Sunday afternoon in April. The street cars were delayed and I was in typical fashion, outrageously underdressed for the North Pole-esque weather. When I finally arrived at my brunch destination, I was convinced I’d lost my hands to frostbite (which was thankfully not the case asย I marvelled at my ability to still hold cutlery).

Us bloggers consider Sunday brunch a holy affair, so really, I couldn’t have missed it, especially when the restaurant we were going to was Lamesa, a Filipino restaurant I’d been dying to try (also, we’d secured a window table). My partners in crime were Krystle and Didier, and frankly, as we stared at the foreign items on the menu, we realized we had no idea what any of the food was. Thankfully, our server quickly came over to break down the menu for us, and bring us the Ensaladang Talong, a delicious roasted aubergine creation, on the house.

At this point, we were joined by Alexa, who is a Filipino herself, and was able to reassure us about what we’d ordered.

If you’re wondering, the aubergine was delicious. It was topped off with mushrooms, baby tomatoes, with an egg yolk jam (!) served on the side.

Before we knew it, our food began to arrive.

I picked the most traditional option in the form of the Silog Breakfast, which I got with the boneless bangus. Never in my life did I think fish and eggs would be a viable breakfast option, but it is, and it was glorious.

Both Krystle and Didier chose the Chicken Adobo, which they were extremely pleased with. Judging by how it smelled, I would go back again to try it (and also get another order of the Silog Breakfast while at it).

Upon my insistence, we got the Ensaymada French Toast, brioche french toast served with dulce de leche. It was delicious, although I have to admit I asked for an extra sideย of dulce de leche to use it for dipping purposes.

I couldn’t have asked for a better first experience with Filipino food. Everything was mouthwateringly delicious and the staff were friendly. If you’re ever in the Queen West neighbourhood, I highly recommend Lamesa. Oh and the best part? They take reservations!

Lol so I’m not the only one who gets overjoyed by a window seat. I refused to be seated anywhere else if one is available. You captured the food well in your images. great photography. Looking at the food made my mouth water. I think I would be too scared to try the fish with eggs for breakfast. The chicken and the fish dish sounded tasty though.

I’m drooling over all of it! I don’ think I’ve ever had brunch before even though I live in America, lol… I usually just call it late breakfast. I think brunch is more of a big city thing in America than anything else. ๐Ÿ™‚

Wow, looks amazing! I don’t think I’ve had Filipino food, and wouldn’t think of it for Brunch. I find that the Toronto scene is really obsessed with meaty-heavy brunches right now – this looks so much lighter, and right up my isle. Xx
