New York Summer

New York Summer

DSC_8855

Although I’m a staunch believer of traveling to new places as opposed to returning to familiar territory over and over again, somehow, I can’t help but make repeat trips to New York any time I can. Something about the fast-paced, full of possibility energy of the city keeps me coming back for more. I made a short trip to New York and although I have done a travel diary for the city in the past, wanted to share recommendations this time too!

Where to stay: I stayed at The Library Hotel, and as a book lover I practically exploded with glee upon entering it. Every corner of the hotel was covered with books, and had a really nice cozy feel to it. The staff were so warm and helpful, always happy to do whatever they could to meet my every demand. Also, in terms of location, I thought it was perfect. I personally hate Times Square, so I balk at the idea of living Midtown. However, the hotel was far enough from Times Square to avert the crowd, and just a stone throw away from the New York Public Library, which was perfect for tons of photo opps (I’m a blogger, do you blame me?).

Where to caffeinate: In Midtown, I loved Coffee Culture for their lattes and donuts. I also hear they have the best cookies in town, but after virtually inhaling 2 donuts and a coffee after my 7am flight, I couldn’t handle more sugar. Perk Kafe is another Midtown gem – their donuts are from Dough which has the most massive (and delicious) donuts. Also try their mocha. Soho, I fell in love with Happy Bones. Cutest interior, most delicious chai latte, and you will most certainly bump into familiar faces. In West Village, I would go to Toby’s Estate (although they have several locations) – their magpies are so good! And East Village has Ludlow which aside from their lattes, has a delicious raspberry croissant that I managed to snag the last of while I was there. In case you’re wondering, yes, I was practically high from the amount of coffee I was drinking the entire time I was there.

Where to eat: Ippudo for a tapas style Japanese food and ramen – please do not leave without trying their Hirata Buns. Beware, there are no reservations, so the wait is long. Shake Shack in Madison Square Park – I know this sounds ridiculous, but it was quite possibly my favourite meal in New York. I loved being able to dig into my burger while surrounded by fairy lights in a park, there was something so magical about it. The Butcher’s Daughter for brunch. Two Hands for avo toast and the most massive banana bread. Egg Shop for any egg enthusiast out there. Tip: if you go at 2/3pm you won’t have to wait in line. ViVi Bubble Tea LES for the most unreal bubble tea. Morgenstern’s for ice cream that will change your life.

What to do: Guys, I hardly need to tell you that there is an endless amount of things to do in New York, but if I could suggest one thing, it would be to walk everywhere. It’s the best way to see the city (and justify all the food you will eat).

Absolutely love this post! I’ve been to New York twice in the past year and wish I could go again soon. Shake Shack in Madison Park is also one of my favorite places to eat for the setting (the burgers are pretty good too!). I stayed at The Rodger, a boutique hotel, during my last trip and I loved it. Boutique hotels usually have so much character and yours with the built-in library sounds amazing.

Your photos are so stunning and I’m so curious to know what kind of editing application you use.
