5 Must-Have Eye Creams

I feel like I’ve been told to wear eye cream almost as much as I’ve been told to wear sunscreen. Can you guys relate?

So growing up, I read a ton of articles on Cosmo about how it was so important to wear eye cream. But no one told me why. So when I started wearing eye cream, I thought the right way of going about doing it was to layer it over my moisturizer. You’re either a) laughing, or b) can relate. Either way, I wanted to share my story, because I feel like it’s important to get into the basics of eye cream.

Eye cream 101: the reason we need to wear eye cream is because the skin around our eyes is the thinest. So if we moisturize it with our face cream, the skin around our eyes can get puffy. The skin around our eyes ages faster than our face, loses hydration more quickly, and often has a fair bit of darkness. So, needless to say, we need creams specifically created to tackle these issues. Enter eye cream.

So now that you understand why you need eye cream, here’s how to properly care for the eyes. After cleansing and toning, take your serum all the way to your under eye area. Then apply your eye cream, followed by your face cream. In terms of actual application, make sure you tap in an upwards motion using your ring finger. Don’t you dare go rubbing or pulling with your index finger.

KD Skincare Revital-Eyes
KD Skincare was created by Dr. Kay Durairaj, a board-certified plastic surgeon. It goes without saying then, that this is a medical-grade product through which you can expect serious results. The star ingredient in this eye cream is retinol which helps your skin naturally build collagen. And another ingredient worth mentioning is arnica, which helps reduce puffiness.

Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream
Okay, so this is one of those products that I just can’t get enough of. One of the key ingredients is coffee, which refreshes and brightens our eyes. Also, this one offers mild coverage as well, so it really kills two birds with one stone.

Amala Rejuvenate Cocoa Bean Eye Cream
Rich in Vitamins A & C, this eye cream helps reduce the look of fine lines, wrinkles and dark circles. It also contains cocoa bean, which is known for its ability to stimulate cell renewal and increase the skin’s moisture barrier. AND another noteworthy ingredient is andiroba seed, which is packed with omega-3 fatty acids which helps fight radical aging.

Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Eye Cream
One word: Vitamin C. If you’re a regular reader of Icing & Glitter, you’ve heard me talk about Vitamin C so much that at this point, I should probably name my firstborn Vitamin C. The reason I love eye creams with Vitamin C is because it reduces the look of dark circles. It also stimulates your skin’s own ability to produce collagen. In case you’re wondering, Collagen will be the name of my second child.

Caudalie Premier Cru
This is the eye cream equivalent of The Golden State Warriors: every ingredient is a superstar, and together, they work synergistically to make the perfect eye cream. It contains caffeine, which reduces the puffiness and the look of dark circles; viniferine, which diminishes dark spots; polyphenols, which are extremely anti-oxidant rich; micro hyaluronic acid, which hydrates and reduces the look of wrinkles; and grapeseed oil, which is high in linoleic acid and Vitamin C.
