Bedroom Transformation Update

I moved into my apartment when I was broke as a joke, straight out of college. That was almost 6 years ago. I’m not going to pretend and tell you I rent my apartment, I don’t. It was a gift from my parents, which I’m very lucky to have. But believe me, I’m nowhere close to purchasing something for myself, so I’m staying put for the foreseeable future. I love my apartment so much, I love that I’ve grown up in it, and that I moved in when I had no job, and while living in it, have built a small business.

My first round of furniture was all from Ikea, funded by my dad, but because my dad was paying for everything, I didn’t want to go OTT with decor. I made do with what I had until 2017, when I was officially a grownup (4 years out of college), and decided to redecorate my living room.

Ever since I finished my living room, my bedroom had been on my mind. Last year, because I traveled for the majority of the year, a reno was out of the question, but this year, my goal has been to stay at home more. So it felt like the perfect time to take on a redecoration project.

Although the year began with a ton of travel, after I got back at the end of March, I’ve been on a mission to get my bedroom done. It’s very much a work in progress, but I’m hoping to get it all finished in the next 4-6 weeks, and thought I’d take you through the process with me.

First things first, a mood board. I used Pinterest as an online mood board, pinning anything and everything that inspired me. The end result was a bohemian meets contemporary vibe. I love the textures and warmth that boho spaces have, but at the same time, I wanted elements of gold, clean lines, and lots of crisp white. Maybe it’s more accurate to say more coastal chic than boho-chic, but you get the jist.

BUDGET

Ah budget, something I’m notorious for not sticking to (lol). Still, I want to make sure I did with this project, so I actually set a realistic number

I partnered with Structube for my furniture – a bedframe, side tables, and chest of drawers – which came up to $1450. I honestly think this is a steal when it comes to furniture. I got my $800 couch from Structube as well back in 2017, and it’s held up in excellent condition, so I have high hopes for my bedroom furniture as well.

Aside from the furniture, I’ve set aside a budget of $2000 for everything else. This includes new lights, rug, and all accessories. If you’re looking at that number and thinking it’s a lot, I assure you, it’s not. Home decor is not cheap (especially if you’re looking to invest in pieces with a long life span).

So while I put together everything up until this point myself, I’ve commissioned the help of my friend Autumn Hachey to fine tune the details. She’s this badass interior designer who’s known for transforming spaces, and she’s helping me pull all the finishing touches together.

WHAT I’M EYEING + WHAT I’VE BOUGHT

So I’ve made a few purchases so far, and thought I’d put it together with the things I have my eye on. Since my bedroom currently looks quite cool-toned with the blue headboard, white sheets and white side-tables, I’m looking to warm everything up with cozy textures and woody accents. TIMELINE

In terms of timeline, I’m hoping to pull everything together by May, but let me tell you, these things take WAY more time than you initially think. I thought this would all be done by the beginning of April, but here I am on the 21st, still waiting for my electrician to send me a price quote for getting a chandelier installed. Fingers crossed I can do the big reveal soon, but for now, I wanted to share my progress!
