2019. What a year. As I write this, I’m currently in bed with strep throat (which sucks), but at home with my entire family (which is awesome). It accurately sums up the year for me to be honest – 2019 has been a year in which I’ve experienced my highest highs and lowest lows. It’s been a year of immense growth and a whole lot of mess. 2019 stressed me out so much that I’ll probably have to get botox at least 2 years sooner than I thought I’d get it. But nonetheless, it’s taught me SO much. If you want to learn some major life lessons, launch a business and get engaged all within a couple of months LOL. Here are 20 lessons I’ll take with me into 2020.
- An imbalanced life IS a balanced life. This is the biggest lesson I’ve learned this year. I’m all about optimization, but halfway through the year I realized I’d gotten to a point where my life was severely imbalanced. 6am spin classes are great, but not at the expense of having a life. I’d freak out if my routine was offset even a little bit… I mean heaven forbid if I slept at midnight as opposed to 10:30pm on a Friday. So I realized that it’s okay to not be perfectly on schedule 24/7.
- Making the bed really does lead to a better start to the day. Only took me 28 years to admit that my mom was right all along.
- Women’s bodies are biologically built differently from men’s. Stop fighting your hormones and shift the paradigm to use them in your favour.
- Growing out bangs is a long and painful process.
- Always re-evaluate your own belief system. Evolution = growth.
- Finding the right contractor for home renovation is one of the biggest challenges of adulthood. If you find the right one, never let them go.
- Double cleansing is the most underrated secret to great skin.
- Owning a Vitamix will undoubtedly change your life.
- The people that hurt you are dealing with their own pain and hurting on the inside. Instead of hoping something bad will happen to them, pray for their happiness so that one day, they can themselves begin to spread joy instead of hatred.
- Blow-drying hair really does give you more volume.
- Read inspiring autobiographies of women who’ve made it when you’re looking for inspiration.
- You will need to call on every resource and connection you have to ensure a new business is successful. You can leave your ego at the door.
- There is no such thing as perfect in-laws. But if you’re smart, you’ll try to find common ground.
- Learning to delegate is the secret to success.
- Hearing ‘no’ is what builds resilience.
- When launching a new business, everything that can go wrong will go wrong.
- They say every girl dreams of their perfect wedding. That’s a lie. Some girls are too busy dealing with life to dream of their perfect wedding. That’s what wedding planners are for.
- The secret to never getting a UTI is taking a good probiotic every day.
- Sleep is something you can’t cheat. It’ll catch up to you and you’ll either age or get sick.
- Misting your face on the plane is a big mistake. Listen to Renee Rouleau speak more about this.
