Why You Should Put Placenta On Your Face

Placenta serum. There is such a thing. No, it does not smell pleasant. Yes, it does genuinely help the skin.

You’re not alone if you have questions. The first may be: who’s placenta?! It’s not human placenta, but sheep’s placenta, and while there are several placenta serums available on the market, the one I tested out is Biologique Recherche. BR has somewhat of a reputation for its really smelly, yet effective products. Remember when I gave you the lowdown on their cult favourite toner? And just as a refresher, BR is a French skincare brand that’s been around for ages, and its founder cracked the code on anti-aging. Every big esthetician won’t stop raving about their products, and after going through 2 bottles of their toner and 1 bottle of their placenta serum, I can confirm that grounds for said obsession are valid. So let’s back up here and break down the basics, starting with:

What Is Placenta?

Placenta is an organ that forms inside the uterus during pregnancy. You may have heard of women eating their placenta after birth in either encapsulated or smoothie form, and that isn’t some woo woo garbage. It has some incredible benefits, including the increase of CRH, which is a stress-reducing hormone and helping with iron levels. In fact, there’s a new startup, funded by the likes of Tony Robbins that focuses on taking stem cells from placenta, which is said to have regenerative properties.

Benefits in Skincare

Placenta’s regenerative properties is exactly what makes it so relevant in skincare. It’s a repairing treatment that reduces the look of imperfections, lightens acne scars, and reconstructs weakened skin. Serum Placenta, specifically, is super nourishing, and ideal for acne scars.

Now here’s the thing. There’s a lot of placenta serums on the market, but the reason I’m recommending BR specifically is because they’re a trust-worthy brand that has an incredible reputation. I’m just not sure if I’d want placenta serum from a company I’ve never heard of before on my face, ya know?

I get mine from North Medical in Toronto, and it’s also available at Rescue Spa in New York. Now the fact that 2 of the best establishments I know stocks this product is like a gold standard of approval.

Have you tried placenta serum before? Let me know.
